MBA-type programs or professional doctorates are not eligible to apply.

Eligibility Criteria

Following are the eligibility requirements for this scholarship. If you want to obtain the opportunity, you need to meet the eligibility criteria.

Non-EU/EEA students are eligible to apply.
Applicants accepted unconditionally for a Master by Research or a Ph.D. program on a full-time or part-time basis are eligible to apply.
Professional doctorate applicants are not eligible.
Applications for scholarships from students, who have already begun studying at UM, will not be considered.
Applicants will be interviewed by the UM PG Scholarship Board.

Note: The award criteria for the UM Ph.D. and Master by Research scholarship approved by Senate are as under:

Applicant’s academic ability and research proposal quality: 60%
Motivational letter: 10%
Interview performance: 10%
Personal circumstances and financial need: 10%
Contribution to the University of Malta and to Malta as a result of the research being undertaken: 10%

Note: Based on the following ranges, the percentage score obtained during the interview will be translated into an equivalent percentage fee waiver:

Financial Benefits

Whether you will be awarded a partial or full fee waiver, check the determining criteria in the above table. The scholarship will contain the annual tuition fee waiver that is applicable for the Master by Research or Ph.D. program being followed. This scholarship facility will not provide any support for your travel cost to and living costs in Malta. It is the applicants’ responsibility to make sure that they have the means to support themselves in Malta for their entire study period.

You should note that the applicants who have been awarded a full scholarship (are in receipt of a full scholarship) such as tuition fees coverage and living costs from another sponsoring organization will not be eligible to apply. On the other hand, those holding a partial scholarship or maintenance grant for the coverage of living expenses from another organization might be considered. When applying for this opportunity, such as a scholarship has to be disclosed or notified to the selection committee.
