Academic Criteria for Imperial College London PhD Scholarship for International Students 

  • Candidates must receive or due to receive a first-class or its equivalent in an integrated Master’s degree or undergraduate degree or if this has not been achieved.
  • Candidates must receive (or where this is yet to be received and be able to provide evidence of higher performance that will lead to) a distinction in a standalone Master’s education (qualification).

This will allow the candidates with demonstrated excellence at the Master’s degree level but who have not achieved a first-class undergraduate degree to be able to apply to this scheme. Candidates having a single undergraduate degree program or integrated Master’s degree have still to receive, or due to obtain a first-class or its equivalent.

Other Criteria to Be Met

As mentioned earlier, exceptional candidates from Imperial College London, England, and from around the world are welcome. There are no restrictions on nationalities, although there are some departments that could be unable to support overseas (international) students.

This scholarship scheme is open to new PhD applicants only. Presently registered Imperial College PhD students are not eligible to apply for this scholarship scheme.

Funding Availability for the President’s PhD Scholarships

The funding is a full scholarship. Each of the 50 scholarships will be available, which provide the following support to the selected students during the PhD period of three and a half years of study.

  • Full funding availability for students’ tuition fees
  • Per year stipend of £25,150 (2024-25 rate) to assist with their living expenses
  • £2,000 will be offered for consumable funds per year for the first three years of their study
  • A program of bespoke opportunities and events delivered by the Graduate School
  • Chosen students will also be offered access to the full range of support that is available to postgraduate students at Imperial including tailored support for international and disabled students, and the wider Graduate School Program of Professional Skills Courses.

Timeline (Important to Understand)

This is the timeline you need to follow and understand. Successful students will obtain written confirmation of their scholarship. Any offer of a PhD place would be conditional on the student receiving the predicted qualifications.

  • Applicants who submit their applications by 23:59 (UK time) on 4th November 2024 and are conferred a scholarship will be informed by the end of January 2025.
  • Applicants who submit their applications by 23:59 (UK time) on 9th January 2025 and are conferred a scholarship will be intimated by the end of March 2025.
  • Applicants who submit their applications by 23:59 (UK time) on 10th March 2025 and are awarded a scholarship will be informed by the end of May 2025.

You need to make contact with a supervisor in an academic department present at Imperial College London who has shown his or her agreement to supervise your research.
