About Hamilton Shirley Amerasinghe Memorial Fellowship (HSA)
Established in 1981, HAS was launched in the memory of the late Hamilton Shirley Amerasinghe (who was the first President of the Third United Nations Conference on the Law of the Sea) in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the development of the law of the sea. HSA was launched/established by the United Nations General Assembly Resolution.

This fellowship is targeted basically to the officials of government and research fellows or lecturers, who are associated with ocean law or maritime affairs or relevant fields either in educational institutions, governments and bodies.

Role of Fellows at This Fellowship Program
The successful (chosen) fellows at this United Nations fellowship program will be provided with the facilities to do research and further study to be done at one of the participating institutions for at least 3 to 6 months and further 1 to 3 months of internship with the UN Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea, Office of Legal Affairs.
The persons, who are not able to have the facilities for training, further studies or experience in other courtiers or in their own countries, will be given special consideration.
