Both the CSC and Imperial College London intend that this program will help entrepreneurs build thriving businesses, scale operations effectually, and drive the creation of jobs in their home countries by the end of the program.

Under the Commonwealth Startup Fellowship Program, a cohort of 20 early-stage start-ups will be taken on board (recruited). One person from each business has to be available to attend a boot camp with a duration of 2 weeks in Accra, Ghana by the end of March 2025. There is another attraction that the program has is that there is a possibility for representatives from exceptional organizations to travel to London (UK) later in the year for a series of excitement-filled capstone events.

About Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC)

Eligibility Criteria

The applicants interested in applying need to meet the Commonwealth Startup Fellowship eligibility requirements.

  • The applicants must be of a minimum of graduate level.
  • They must be citizens of or have been granted the status of refugee by an eligible low and middle-income Commonwealth country.
  • The applicants must be permanent residents in an eligible Commonwealth country.
  • They must be proficient in both written and spoken English.
  • At the time of getting the award, they must not have undertaken a Commonwealth Professional Fellowship within the time frame of the last 5 years.
  • They have to be available to undertake their fellowship program from the prescribed commencement date.

Additionally, they must show:

  • Innovation evidence in terms of service, product, or market.
  • Active development for a minimum of 6 months and demonstrable commitment from team members.
  • A working minimum viable ‘product’, prototype, and/or service.
  • Customer engagement’s significant evidence or traction in the form of early sales or pre-sales. Demand or proof of interest, signed contracts, or other related evidence.

Available Financial Assistance for Commonwealth Startup Fellowship

Successful candidates will be provided with the following financial benefits.

  • Airfare – approved return travel from the fellow’s home country to the in-person boot camp in Accra (Ghana).
  • Travel, accommodation, and catering for the entire duration of the in-person boot camp which is to be conducted in Accra (Ghana).
  • Vaccination costs’ reimbursement.
  • Standard visa application fee reimbursement.
  • The fellows will get access to a fellow’s grant fund for business or participation-relevant expenses.
