As for the previous winners (Commonwealth Youth Awards 2022 winners), they have really enjoyed international acclaim, invaluable networking opportunities and cash prizes to help enhance their projects.
The upcoming awards are going to be very special since the year 2023 has been announced the ‘Year of the Youth’ in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Commonwealth Youth Programme.
As for the launch of the 2023 awards, it was done between the meeting of the Commonwealth Youth Forum and Commonwealth Heads of Government in Kigali, Rwanda.
During this meeting, the leaders made a commitment to a range of initiatives, strategies, and activities to address/make focus on the current (ongoing) impact of new ad pre-existing youth relevant challenges like conflict, climate change, unemployment, access to educations and others.
The meeting also declared the name of the upcoming awards ‘Year of the Youth’ that will begin in January 2023 with a Youth Ministerial Meeting to be held in Pakistan that will consist of various activities targeted to youth development and empowerment.

Eligibility Criteria for Commonwealth Youth Awards 2023
If interested, you need to fulfill the eligibility standards.
- The applicants have to be the citizens of Commonwealth countries.
- They need to be between the age bracket of 15 to 29 years.
- The applicants have been engaged in the work of development for at least one year as professionals or volunteers.
The nominees have to show a strong track record of implementing an impressive work of development that contributes to minimum one of the 17 SDGs.
If you want to be eligible for an additional QCT prize, you need to be between the age bracket of 18 to 29 years. Besides, you have to be the founder or co-founder of a social enterprise.

Prizes You Can Win
There are prizes at Commonwealth Awards, which you can win. Youngsters from 56 countries of Commonwealth can enter 5 regional categories namely Asia, Africa, Europe, the Caribbean and the Pacific.
An independent pan-Commonwealth jury will shortlist the finalists, who will each be endowed with a trophy and a certificate plus a cash prize of £1,000.
From these people, regional awards winners will be selected. These winners will get an additional £2,000.
One of these regional award recipients will then be provided with a further recognition as Commonwealth Young Person of the Year, and will receive a total cash prize of £5,000.
For the second year running the QCT (Queen’s Commonwealth Trust) has joined the Commonwealth Secretariat as a partner to provide one winner up to 2 years of flexible funding worth £20,000 per annum in addition to organizational development support and coaching opportunities.
