Eligibility Criteria for the Amsterdam Merit Scholarships
The University of Amsterdam has specifically designed The Amsterdam Merit Scholarships (AMS) to provide exceptional and hard-working non-EU/EEA students with the opportunity to pursue a degree in one of the academic fields covered by/conducted at the UvA. It is worth noting that the AMS program of UvA is highly selective therefore only the candidates with outstanding study results and a strong motivation could be eligible to bag a scholarship. Those who wish to participate in Amsterdam Merit Scholarships have to meet the below-mentioned requirements.
- Applicants must hold a non-EU/EEA passport and they must not be eligible for support under the Dutch system of study grants and loans and/or the low tuition fee. Throughout the academic year, the scholarship office has to be notified (as soon as possible) of any change occurring in nationality, residence permit type, and/or possible ‘Studiefinanciering’ support.
- The candidates must be fully admitted to a degree program conducted at the Graduate School of Social Sciences. Remember, if the students change their degree program, continuation of the scholarship will not be guaranteed.
- It has to be noted that the University of Amsterdam scholarships for international students (in this scenario, Amsterdam Merit Scholarships) will not be offered to students having to complete a preparatory program (pre-master’s) before their master’s.
- Candidates should note that the only exception is if a student/candidate is required to only complete the summer school program: a comprehensive introduction to research methodology and design (of which the costs will be the responsibility/borne by the candidate).
- The candidates must be admitted unconditionally to a Master’s program at the Graduate School of Social Sciences, and this study program being the first program for the candidate, either at Bachelor’s level or Master’s level in the Netherlands.
- The candidates have to be able to comply with the visa regulations of the Netherlands.
- They must be enrolled at the University of Amsterdam as full-time students for the academic year and the study program for which the scholarship is conferred.
- It has to be noted as well that the students should not receive a full coverage scholarship for the same period of study as the Amsterdam Merit Scholarships 2025. They need to notify the office of scholarships when another full scholarship has been provided and accepted.
- If the students are seeking the continuation of the scholarship for subsequent year(s), it will depend on their satisfactory study progress. The study program the students will be enrolled in, as it depends on the rules and regulations of the department and curriculum, sets the standard for satisfactory progress, and the time and manner in which progress will be measured. It should be understood that the students are expected to obtain approximately 80% of credits in any one year.
Note: For the Master’s program, you would like to apply, it could set extra requirements like language and academic requirements.
